‘It’s also a moment that I want to find for the character. In the midst of all hell, he just finds a moment of God’s beauty in nature, and realizes that the problem is man.’

According to IMDB, the premise of the action drama follows Peter, a runaway slave, who “makes a harrowing journey through the swamps of Louisiana to escape the plantation owners who killed him.”

He further reflected that the problems of the world lie ‘in the hearts of men,’ and, ‘not in the world of God.’

Emancipation is based on the true story of an 1863 photograph known as Whipped Peter, notably for the amount of painful whip marks on his back.

Talking about the role and stepping into the historical picture’s location, Will, who is also a producer on the project, explained to Vanity Fair, ‘When I watch it now, I love it even more.’

‘There’s now a story behind every one of Peter’s scars. There is a man behind the image. A man who has endured atrocities both visible and invisible that are beyond my imagination,’ the father of three continued.

Emancipation is set to premiere in select theaters on December 2nd early next month, and will be available to stream on Apple TV+, right in time for Oscar season.

However, the actor has been banned from attending award ceremonies for ten years following this year’s notable Oscar slap against then-host Chris Rock, but can still receive a nomination.

Earlier on Saturday, Will shared a clip of himself taking a quick Covid test, which came out positive. In the caption of the post, the star jokingly wrote, ‘Throwback to when I got viral.’

The actor had originally planned to attend the screening of Mukti and surprise the audience, but due to the test result, those plans had to be cancelled.

The action star showed no signs of illness, but let out exaggerated screams of pain when the test swab rolled around his nasal passages, and was shocked when he got a positive result an hour later.

Instead of speaking to the audience in person, the Oscar winner met with them via Zoom as he sat in front of a laptop.
