She continued: ‘And then later you texted me and you were like, ‘I think I just went into shock a little bit.’
Meanwhile Hellyar, who also quit the show this month, said he was happy with his “wonderful” choice to leave.
He told Carey, ‘You make a decision, you second guess yourself for a while and you know you have to announce it.’

,[but] It felt really great to do it last night,’ he explained.
However, Heliar said that he made a critical mistake in the night.
‘Once I got the first word down, one thought came to my mind, “Why didn’t I put it in autocue? Why did I think I could riff it?”‘ he explained.
Carey is set to perform his final show on 30 November. Sarah Harris, who previously hosted Studio 10, will now take over the role.

Lisa Wilkinson (pictured) also announced her resignation from the program this month
Sarah recently told Stellar magazine: ‘I didn’t see it happening. And I’m still trying to wrap my head around it.’
‘This is an incredible opportunity to step into some very big shoes and be a part of the next chapter of the project.
‘I can’t wait to learn more and have some fun with Waleed and the team. It’s one of the biggest jobs in TV, and seems like a once in a lifetime event.

The network confirmed that Sarah Harris (pictured) will replace Carrey as host of the show five nights a week alongside Waleed Aly
