Portuguese president dissolves parliament, announces elections

Lisbon. In Portugal, parliamentary elections have been dissolved and early elections have been announced. President Marcelo Ribeiro de Sousa announced the dissolution of parliament on Sunday, setting a date for the election. He has announced that he will hold parliamentary elections on January 30, 2022.

Portugal’s parliament has been dissolved eight times since April 25, 1974. After the parliament did not pass the government’s budget proposal, the president dissolved the parliament and announced the election. Parliament voted on October 27 to pass the government’s budget.
