Glasgow. Former US President Joe Biden has criticized Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin for not attending the UN Climate Conference (COP-26).
“I must tell the truth. It is not pleasant that the leaders of China and Russia, the two largest emitters of carbon, have not participated in the process. Even the national plans of those countries do not reflect the urgent need to mitigate the risks, ”he said.
Obama said it was “shameful” that China and Russia were pursuing a government-sponsored plan to destabilize the situation. For the first time since the Paris conference in 2015, Obama has reached COP-26.
Leaders from more than 200 countries have gathered in Glasgow to try to keep the Earth’s temperature below 1.5 degrees Celsius. He said India, Russia and China were leading the way in economies like Europe and the United States directing climate issues.
“We want to see Russia take the lead. “Indonesia, South Africa and Brazil should also take the lead,” he said.
He also said that the US political parties, Democrats and Republicans, have not been able to decide on climate issues and party issues. “Nature, physics and science are not interested in the influence of the party,” he said. He also pointed out the need for voters to put pressure on the government to implement an ambitious climate plan.
