New Doctor Who companion Millie Gibson undergoes transformation by cutting her hair into a chic bob

He was announced last week as the new Doctor Who companion.

And Millie Gibson has had a new hair transformation ready to take on the incredible role.

The 18-year-old actress has chopped off her long blonde hair into a stunning new bob.

He shared several shots on Instagram showing off the new hairdo, captioning it: ‘Rock the Chop’.

The Coronation Street star showed off her toned stomach in a black crop top and matching black trousers as she posed for the striking snaps.

This comes after Millie was announced to be playing the Doctor’s latest assistant, Ruby Sunday.

The actress made a special appearance at the 2022 Children in Need Fundraiser Live on BBC One on Friday, where the news was shared.

In a statement, the star said the new role is a ‘dream come true’ as the much-anticipated secret is finally revealed, much to fans’ delight.

Curious fans quickly took to Twitter to learn about Millie’s casting, agreeing that she and new Doctor Nkuti Gatwa would be the perfect time traveling pairing.

“While still in complete disbelief, I am honored to have been chosen as the Doctor’s companion,” Milly said in a statement released by the BBC.

‘It’s a gift of a role, and a dream come true, and I’ll try and fill the shoes that fellow teammates have traveled before me.’

She added: ‘And what better way to do that than by the side of the fabulous Nakuti Gatwa, I just can’t wait to get started.’

At just 18, Millie is the youngest actor to be cast in the role, surpassing the record set by Matthew Waterhouse, who was 19 when he was cast in Doctor Who in the 1980s.

Nkuti, 30, was recently announced as the new Doctor and said in a statement that Millie is “full of talent.”

“She is full of talent, strength, has a cheeky gleam in her eye and is as sharp as a razor,” he said.

‘From the moment she walked into the room, she captured all of our attention with her enthusiasm and then reinforced that attention with her talent.’

He said: ‘This adventure is going to be so wild and so much fun, I can’t wait to travel the universe with Millie!’

Millie appeared at the Children in Need fundraiser on Friday and went on stage sharing the news via the Doctor Who TARDIS.

Miley said, ‘I can’t believe it myself, I’ve had to keep it so secret that I’m believing it for the first time.’

When asked how she felt about the role, she added: ‘It’s crazy, I’m so honored that I was even considered for an audition, I hope I can impress you all. I can please and live for others.

‘I’m going to play a character called Ruby Sunday.’

The Doctor’s companion is the character who travels or shares adventures with the Doctor, Millie is set to make her debut in 2023 in the festive season.

Fans loved the news, with one tweeting: ‘OMG, that’s why she dumped Corey! I am so happy for him!!’

‘A great signing. She was fabulous as Kelly Neelan in Cory. I’m so excited for Russell T Davies to be back in the Doctor Who era, it looks great.’

‘Unbelievable news! She was fab in Corrie,’ said another onlooker.

It comes after Millie revealed she was leaving Coronation Street after three years on the soap.

Millie, who plays Kelly Nealon in the show, told The Metro in September that it was a difficult decision and she had to convince her parents it was the right move.

‘I don’t have any responsibilities – I don’t have kids, I don’t have a mortgage to pay or anything like that, I’m just grateful to still be at home,’ Millie said.

‘So I thought I’m just going to see what else the world has in store. If it happens, it happens – that would be cool enough, wouldn’t it? I just thought I might as well see what used to happen when I was young.’

The actress, who turned 18 in June and previously starred in CBBC show Jamie Johnson, was adamant about leaving while she was still young.

‘Cause I’m so young, I thought I’d have to go. It was a decision where it was always in the back of my mind if I didn’t make it, so I just had to go with it and see what happens,’ she continued.

But admitting that her parents had their reservations and urged her to stay in a ‘safe’ role, Millie explained that she had to ‘trust my instincts’.

She joined the show in 2019 as the daughter of Rick Neelan (Greg Wood), before becoming a regular cast member in 2020 – and even won a National Soap Award for her performance in the soap.
