Mr Andrews, whose party was predicted to win an outright majority of 50 seats, took the stage at a victory party in his seat of Mulgrave, in Melbourne’s south-east, with his wife Kath and children Grace, Noah and Joseph.

In a triumphant address to Labor loyalists, he hailed his controversial COVID policies – including a 263-day lockdown of Melbourne, the world’s longest – as a tough decision that ultimately succeeded and united Victoria.

He said: ‘Guys, these past few years have been incredibly challenging. We’ve had to make some very difficult decisions, some very difficult decisions, and Victorian families and businesses across our state have faced very difficult times.

Meanwhile earlier this year, Mechel took a brutal parting shot at The Project, accusing the show’s producers of removing her from the panel after her father died.

She claimed she requested leave in February 2019 ‘because my father was literally dying’ but when she tried to return three months later it was put on hold.

Mechel, who now runs her own successful podcast company, was apparently told that the spots on the panel were ‘filled for the next few months’.

This marked the end of her four years at the Channel 10 current affairs show.

To add insult to injury, she claimed she later attended the project’s tenth anniversary taping as an audience member and was treated “… like I never existed.”

Mechel spoke out about her exit from The Project in a blistering Instagram post, accusing management of being evasive and failing to respond.
