Spain and Germany played out a 1-1 draw on a crucial night of World Cup action that left Group E on a knife edge.

Spain’s Álvaro Morata managed to score a goal for his side against keeper Kevin Pietersen as the two Group E teams battled it out.

Alvaro put Spain through to the last-16 after coming off the bench in the second half, but Germany responded with a late sub of their own, as Niklas Fulkrug grabbed a vital late equaliser.

From here though, the challenge should be straightforward for both teams. If Spain beat Japan, if Germany beat Costa Rica, both progress.

Germany will come in second but considering the mess Belgium made in Group F, that might not be a bad thing.

Spain could win the group and play Belgium, with Germany meeting Morocco or Croatia as runners-up. Luck is really lucky.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup began this week, November 20, and will go on till December 18 at the Al Bayt Stadium in Qatar.

It comes four years after the last FIFA World Cup, which was held in Russia and won by France.
