According to an official plot synopsis released by Paramount+, the show takes place ‘at the beginning of the 20th century when epidemics, historic droughts, the end of Prohibition and the Great Depression all plague the mountain west and the Duttons who call it home.’

‘You have no right here,’ says Mirren’s Kara Dutton at the beginning of the trailer.

Talk of a ‘class war’ soon ensues as the Dutton family comes into conflict with Timothy Dalton’s wealthy new neighbor, Donald Whitfield.

Fall, dust, guns and grit abound in the 90-second trailer as Harrison and Helen fully live up to their tough-talking characters.

‘Men kill quickly with a shot or a noose,’ says Mirren, affecting an Irish grumble. ‘But your fight is with me and I kill very slowly.’

Premiering December 18 on Paramount+, 1923 is the second Yellowstone prequel following the previous year’s 1883.

That show tracked Dutton as he traveled to Montana and struggled to find the family ranch.

It starred real-life couple Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as central couple James and Margaret Dutton, with Sam Elliott on board to play the rugged leader of their wagon train.

The fifth season of Yellowstone premiered earlier this month, drawing 12.1 million viewers and cementing its place as a pop culture juggernaut.

The star that started it all is Kevin Costner, 67, who reportedly anchors Yellowstone for a fee of $1.3 million per episode.

1923 looks like it will be a surefire hit thanks to a pair of stars unhappy to tell this story.

‘You attack my family,’ says Harrison, ‘this will be the last thing you do.’
