Baghdad. The residence of Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Qadimi has been hit by a drone strike. The drone strike is believed to have been aimed at assassinating the prime minister.
The Iraqi military says a car bomb had exploded at an Iraqi police recruiting center at Kisak, west of Baghdad. Seven bodyguards of the prime minister were injured in the attack.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. In the green zone, the army usually patrols heavily. A statement from the army said the drone had targeted the prime minister with explosives. A statement from the Iraqi government stated that the prime minister had been killed in a drone strike.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister al-Qadimi has said he is safe. He has even appealed for peace.
