Clash in the procession of legal practitioners

26 October, Kathmandu. There has been a clash in the procession of legal practitioners. Some have been arrested.

A clash broke out between the lawyers of Chief Justice Cholendra Shamser Jabra and the agitating lawyers. He had a brief altercation with a lawyer who was leading a sit-in at the main gate of the Supreme Court. Then the hand was weak. Police arrested some of them and put them in a van.

However, Kathmandu Police Chief SSP Ashok Singh told Online Khabar that no clash had taken place and no arrests had been made.

Protesting law practitioners have gathered at the main gate in front of the Supreme Court. After all the inner gates to enter the Supreme Court were closed, they staged a sit-in at the outer gate. Addressing the sit-in, General Secretary of Nepal Bar Association Lilamani Poudel accused Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jabra of trying to suppress the agitation by using vigilantes.

They have said that they will hold a sit-in till 12 noon. After that, there will be protests in the office premises of the Bar Association.

Officials of the Nepal Bar Association, which has been leading the movement, have been urging the protesters to exercise restraint. They have chanted slogans demanding the resignation of the Chief Justice.
